An interesting question.
Today I feel blessed being able to stop drinking when I drink.
Today I have learned about how Alcoholics Anonymous has transformed the lives of Millions.
Today I try to open Pandora’s Box by asking; Am I an Alcoholic?
This is probably one of the hardest questions any heavy drinker should ask him/her self every now and then.
Many Moons ago I had the opportunity to live with a wonderful woman that suffered from this disease and could not stop drinking. Let’s call her Miriam.
Miriam was the head of a Marketing Department and due to the nature of her work it was common for us to drink, and to drink heavily. I did like her to drink because this helped her get free from many inhibitions, but I hated it when she started to fight for the most innocent of events.
Today I see the social reality of Alcoholism in a very different way as I saw it back then.
Did you know that around 400 million suffer from Alcohol Use Disorder and 209 millions experience Alcohol dependence? These are world estimates.
In that moment I thought she could stop drinking at will. Today I have been learning how hard it is for a person with Alcohol Use Disorder to stop drinking.
Do you remember my post ‘Miracle in the happening’ where I described how the Invisible Hand guides my road to Peer Recovery Specialist by George Mason University?
As always I did ask permission for me to write this and say ‘thank you’ to Mr. Ray Porter, Mr. Joshua Poole, Mr. Cameron Patey and the rest of the staff from Healing ❤️🩹 Place at Caritas, here in Richmond, Virginia.
Today I have seen first hand how a group of men take action to restore their lives by using the 12 Steps from Alcoholics Anonymous. Caritas helps men and women move away from alcohol 🍷 and other substances in a sustainable way.
If 609 million people suffer from alcohol use disorder is possible that you or someone you know is in this statistic.
With this in mind ask yourself Am I an alcoholic?
